Learn to Ride

We have a few people who are brand new to road cycling and have never ridden in a group. We plan to do an easy 30km ride on Tuesday starting from the Extreme Bean at 6:30 pm. We will practice riding in a group, do some drills, practice pace lines and riding into different wind conditions. I am going to talk Trev into leading this - so it will be informative :)
Every Welcome!

Rides, this Tues. and Thurs.

SpeedTheory rides leave from Extreme Bean at 6:00pm on Tues, and Thurs.

James will make sure to be there on Tues. to lead it if need be, and I'll be there on Thurs. for sure.

Thursday's ride will be relatively easy with a few short hard intervals, but we'll make sure to all group up after each one.

Bring your new team kit and let's ride !

Velocity Stage Race

If you are going to Velocity Stage Race, the online registration is now up and ready to go.

You are required to be at Velocity Friday night between 6 - 10pm. However, several of us have Paul's Wedding Reception and are heading up Sat. early morning. If you would like to do this, you have to have your license to me by the end of THIS Sat. so I can send Andy a list of who can't make it the following Fri. night.

I will be at the ride this Thurs. and teaching the Clinic on Sat.

Learn to Race Clinic... Everyone welcome

Guys, with the realization that the Velocity stage race is pretty well upon us. I would like to offer the 'Learn to Race Safely and how to Win' clinic this Sat. at 9am at the research park. I realize this is short notice, so I made it in the morning so people are still free the rest of the day. This will be about 1hour long.

I would really like to get MOST of our Cat5 racers to this so they can meet, learn each others riding habits, and discuss strategy to get pumped up.

Please comment if you can make it. Also, this is not just open to SpeedTheorists. Anyone who is road racing this year is welcome.

Here is a link to a map to the meeting point.

OUR GEAR IS HERE

I just got word today that all our clothing is officially at the Speed Theory!

Greg is going to figure out pricing and I'll email out the numbers.

Hot burger

While not cycling related, the editorial on eating this burger is quite entertaining. Read the bottom part after the pictures as well. Gave me the lift I needed to get out of my weather funk.

Will likely be stuck in Lacombe for a few weeks

There's a great probability one of the unions from work will be going on strike. As far as I know, I can be send to Lacombe/Red Deer area as early as Sunday/Monday for strike duty.

Anyone know of any good 50Km/1.5 hr routes or 100+Km routes around Lacombe/Red Deer? I would be bored outta my skull if I just sit in the hotel.

Bonjour mes amie

Nice to meet everyone last Sunday, thanks for the ride to 22X. I was utterly lost within 5 minutes after leaving Talisman, but luckily made it home with James and his new horse-resistant van. I look forward to more rides together and a great season. Couple of things to mention:
1) I will be away for May (my wife and I are in France on holiday, woohoo)

2) and I work at foothills hospital and do a fair bit of on-call work which means the more notice for rides the better as I can sometimes swap call with my colleagues.

Thanks for making me feel welcome and see you in Balzac if its not snowing too hard.

Balzac 20km TT on April 22nd.

Our next race is this weekend at Balzac. For directions to the race start, please see the Cranky's website.

If you would like to ride out there with Alex and I, meet at my place at 9:45am. It is a fairly short ride, so that will give us plenty of time to get there and sign up and still take it easy on the way out.

I live at 124 Royal Oak Gardens NW. Here is a link to a map of the place. There is lots of visitor parking on the west side of the ghetto.

Please comment here if you are going to come, so we know to wait for you if you are a little delayed.

April 15th, it's on ! Indus 20km ITT

The race is officially on on April 15th at 11am sharp. Please visit the Crankmaster's site for a map to the race start.

Like I wanted to last week, let's all try to meet at 10am sharp at the race start. That way we can all sign up and go for a warm up ride together.

Greg said the jerseys are very close. Apparently he was able to secure one for his race in IM Arizona this weekend. So they should be sending out the batch very soon.

Congradulations!

Paul and Krista were married in Mexico on Wed.

Apparently everything went perfectly and they were spoiled rotten in the resort for their honeymoon.

Here is a picture of the groom with his lovely bride:

James....

...was in a pretty bad car/horse accident last night on his way to Cranbrook for a cycling weekend. Celine was not hurt, and James is mostly shaken up, but his hand is injured. While Celine was explaining it to me, it sounded like a horror story.

If you know him, maybe give him a call, see if he needs/wants anything.
