Age Group Doping

Trev's (joking) prediction of 93 age group dopers in Darryl's division in Kona might be a bit of a stretch but I read today about Kevin Moats. He is in my age group and had signed up for my upcoming Ironman Florida. Moats always finishes first or second in M55-59 depending on if Joe Bonness is on form or not. Anyway:

October 18, 2012 (Tampa, Fla.) — Today, World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) announced that an independent three member American Arbitration Association (AAA) panel issued its decision that American age group athlete Kevin Moats committed a doping violation. Moats has received a one-year period of ineligibility for the offense, effective January 30, 2012, and has been provisionally suspended from WTC competition since notice of the adverse finding.
WTF is going on? At that age you would think some maturity would set in.

Hey Mike,
I hear there's a doctor in Italy that's lost a few of his clients recently. I can't remember his name.. I think it has something to do with a car.. Renault?... no... Fiat?... no... Maserati? That's it... Anyway, I think he can hook you up with the good stuff if you're interested.

Apparently, doping has hit the GranFondo circuit as well:

Now that the "How to" manuals are bestsellers and on the web. Now that there are irrefutable endorsements by the cyclist who was stripped of the most TdeF wins ever, I bet this gets worse. Nothing like cheating at your hobby.

But it does make great reading, I must admit. Very entertaining.

I have been reading a lot of articles these days that say that majority of EPO users in North America these days are Masters. They have the money and time to learn and use EPO along with their $10,000 bikes. If testing started in Master races it would have the same results as pro racing these days. Sad but true!
