1.) This Monday, March 23rd, is our last indoor spin. Diana is hosting a post-spin get together at her house which is a few doors down from ST. We'll do a short hard workout, then head over to her house and toast to a great consistent winter. All spinners are welcome! The spin money will pay for snacks, beer, and chocolate milk. I may even bring some of my music since I know you guys have been missing it.
2.) We are super excited about our Cat4/5 contingent this year and want to build this into a sustainable grassroots affair. One of our first steps will be: Stephen Kenny is going to host a Cat4/5/Women training camp on a weekend coming up (TBA) and we are also interested in getting some functional training groups together that can be lead by our veteran racers. Because of the wide variety of abilities, we have devised this method to divide people into training groups.... On Wed. March 25th, at 6:00pm, weather pending. All Cat4 and Cat5 and Women who plan to race and train this year will meet at the top of Cochrane hill on Retreat Rd. (there is a parking lot there) for a 16km Club ITT. No aero gear. Just a steely resolve to suffer for 16km. We will collect all times and place everyone in functional training groups. It will be the same course from our Sept race last year, from this document.
3.) I need 4 volunteers from our Cat2/3 pool to help me put on this ITT for our Grassroots dudes. It will be from 6pm - 8pm March 25th. Please comment if you can help.

Sadly (or joyfully) I will be in Tucson with Stephen lounging about poolside err, I mean training my scronny little but off. Can you post the route for the TT and I will do it this Saturday. I'll send you my results so you can put me in the right group.
Tom
Tom, I updated the post to include the course. Also, get on ?Marlese?'s butt about joining the club and coming out to this.
Trev
Trev - Let me know what I can do for volunteering Wednesday night.
Jason W. Cat 3.
I can't wait to bring it to both, the party and the ITT (lol). Can't wait to start riding with some of the cat 5 guys on a regularly.
Thanks for all those that keep the team going.
Any chance this could be scheduled on a weekend?
Cool news, I am looking forward to the women's weekend as I have never actually raced before and have no clue what I am doing.
Amy
Unfortunately I'll be in the states during this time, but I'd still like to do the tt/training group rides. i get back on the 30th. Is there any other dates?
Mike Hoang
Well, you could possibly hook up with Tom doing it this weekend if you can't make Wed. night. However, we will have to believe your time :) We will probably do it again as well, this one will be the first one. This one is totally weather dependent, and I also want to get an idea of how many people are actually serious about training and racing this year (either comment here or show up). I also want to see if I am going to have any difficulties getting volunteers this year. I know this is very early in the season and that 6pm may be a little early to get to the edge of town. So we may hold one a little later when we have more daylight. But I encourage you to come to this one if the weather is decent and you can fit it in.
Who is AAR ?
hey Trev, I'll be there on Wednesday. the training stuff with the team sounds awesome as well! anything to get a bit more experience I'm up for. see you Wednesday...
Also, this is just a general comment. Lets get some team and individual pictures up on the blog as well. it would be a lot easier to see who's commenting/organizing/heckling amongst the blog entries. It would also help all the new guys learn the names of everyone on the team. I say institute a mandatory profile pic update...good idea or not???
Trev:
AAR is Aryeh. Just using my initials.
Matt, that is great you are thinking like this. With the explosion of our team, I think this would be great.
We are going to announce a big team BBQ soon here that I am hoping most people come out to. It would be good to meet the new members. We will plan this mid-Aprilish before we start racing. We just have to figure out a venue.
ARR et al. My plan is to do the TT on Saturday at 12:00. It would be good to have someone to chase down.
Having never done a TT before is there any advice? I assume "go as fast as your heart lungs and legs will permit" is the obvious answer. I don't have a TT bike or a skin suit (which is probably best, picture woody allan in a skin suit...'nuff said). Any tricks, special advice?
I forgot my password. as soon as I remember what that is I'll post a picture.
Tom
Hey no drafting you guys! :P
Hi everyone! This sounds awesome, I'll be there. Looking forward to training with a team as I've never done any competitive biking in my life.
Clarke
The superior conditioning of the Tuesday night spinners won't be a secret after March 25th.
I'll be there if the weather is half decent.
I should be there on Wednesday. I'm booked for the next couple of weekends, so I'm limited to weekday evening rides until April.
I'll be there if I can make it to leave work around four. That said I rode the course today at 7:45 and there was plenty of light. It just started getting dark when I was finishing up at 8:00ish. If need be, you could probably start later.
For those who haven't done the route, my advice is don't burn yourself out on the hill just before the turn around cause it is a long ride back.
David Morgantini
PS: both those numbers are approximate. I didn't rode the route in anything near to 15 mins.
My entry in the team is as a Non-Raccing member. But I am interested in joining the TT/Training group ride to maintain my motivation to Calgary 70.3 and IMC races. Am I able to join it? If yes, do I need to get a ABA racing license?
Please let me know. Thanks,
Hiroshi
Hiroshi, good question.
I am glad you want to continue training/TTing with the team. If you go to this link:
http://www.karelo.com/register.php?&BID=199#Ev2963
You can get a 'General Membership' through the ABA. It is a non-racing license and ensures all your ducks are in a row concerning insurance and ties from club to federation. This way you and I (the club) can be fully confident that everything is perfect for you to come out and TT with us and train with us on the road.
With the club and ABA general, you can participate in the 'Club Races' we will be holding on Wed. nights too! For example, this Wed. if the weather cooperates.
Does this answer your question?
Trev
Thank you, Trev.
I will get ready soon with sign up for the ABA General Membership.
Hiroshi
Hey team,
My name is Joel and I am a new member. I will definitely be there on Wednesday night for the TT. Looking forward to meeting some of the team members.
Joel Souchotte
Question: Do we need a road bike for the TT or can we bring a TT bike?
Joel
Trev mentioned this in the post:
"No aero gear. Just a steely resolve to suffer for 16km."
I think you get extra points if you wear wool and ride a vintage steel frame with toe clips. ;)
If you don't have a road bike, or want to test out a new TT bike, then no problem.. we just didn't want people showing up with disc wheels and aero helmets..... especially for the ride out :) I would have to ride 30meters in front :)
